Tree ring information covering over 100 years enabled them to see how trees that made it through a preliminary dry spell expanded later. Information from the US Woodland Stock and Evaluation gave them access to metrics on tree death for greater than 100,000 woodland stories from 2000 through 2018. They combined these resources with satellite dimensions of the sprinkle content in woodland canopies.
